Ben Rothwell is free to throw with anyone, including the legendary artist at Knockout UFC Mark Hunt.
Rothwell won the BKFC heavyweight title devastating last Saturday in the co-principal event of BKFC Knucklemania 5 at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. He did it by turning off Mick Terill’s lights just 36 seconds from the first round.
At a press conference after the fighting, Rothwell was invited to fight Hunt – who called him online.
“Yeah, let’s do it,” said Rothwell. “Do you think I’m going to say right? Let’s go f * cking go Motherf * Cker. Let’s go.”
Rothwell and Hunt have a story. The two fought in MMA in 2011. That night at UFC 135, Hunt beat Rothwell in a unanimous decision. More than a decade later, the two have now left the UFC. Rothwell was active in Bareknuckle boxing and is now BKFC champion, and Hunt remained quite inactive, his last fight being a boxing victory in 2022.
Rothwell is on the moon about his victory in the title in BKFC. Although a pretender of a high level for many years under the UFC banner, “Big” Ben could never have his chance to fight for gold.
“It was a huge kick in my nuts,” said Rothwell when he asked him to never win a UFC title. “Everyone around me believed that I was going to win the belt. I was one of the best classified contenders for a while, I was on a winning sequence of four fights, I took a really fight Stupid and I went abroad and I dropped five- round decision to junior (Dos Santos), then my life went almost that.
“I had a series of horrible things that took place and, you mean depression and evil, yes, I had to fight in a hole.” I’m happy to have been able to present it. “
