Tom Landry, the first head coach in cowboys history, held this position for 29 years. Jerry Jones has just hired his 10th head coach since he bought the team in 1989 and dismissed Landry.
The cowboys formalized the hiring of Brian Schottenheimer on Friday evening.
They will present it during a press conference on Monday at 11:00 ct.
Schottenheimer, 51, was an assistant in Mike McCarthy staff in the last three seasons, notably as an attacking coordinator in the last two. McCarthy, however, called cowboys games in the past two seasons.
Schottenheimer had an interview for two days this week and convinced the team to entrust his first job as a head coach. Schottenheimer had no other interest elsewhere.
The cowboys also interviewed Seattle Leslie Frazier assistant and former head coach Robert Saleh, and they had a virtual interview with the offensive coordinator of the Eagles Kellen Moore, which Schottenheimer replaced as an offensive coordinator before before The 2023 season.
Schotenheimer has catching up to be done since four cowboys assistant coaches have already found a new job. The former head coach of the Bears, Matt Eberflus, is the favorite for the post of defensive coordinator, although the cowboys must comply with the Rooney rule before hiring it.
