A few days after hiring Brian Schottenheimer as a new head coach, Dallas Cowboys are already considering their new defensive coordinator. Cowboys are expected to hire the former chicago Bears Matt Eberflus head coach as the team’s DC, according to several reports.
Ed Werder d’Espn told Ed Werder d’Espn on Sunday that he had not planned to return to the team as part of Schottenheimer’s staff and that he would probably retire. Zimmer, who has led the defense of cowboys over the past seven years, will leave an opening that Eberflus should fill.
Eberflus is expected to do another interview in person in Dallas on Monday. If all goes well, Eberflus will return to Cowboys, where he was coach of the seconds from 2011 to 2017, as the first major hiring of Schottenheimer.
The last months have not been great for Eberflus: at the end of November, the 54 -year -old coach was dismissed after a horrible defeat of the last season against the Detroit lions, becoming the final straw of a series of errors while long of the season. Eberflus became the first head coach of the Bears to be dismissed in mid-season, reaching the strange sprawl after three seasons at the bar of Chicago.
Now Eberflus will return to its roots in Dallas. The coach spent seven seasons with the cowboys as a second -time coach, winning additional responsibilities in 2016 and 2017 as a game game coordinator.
He then joined the Indianapolis colts as a defensive coordinator of 2018-2021, visibly improving the defense of the colts and rushing and helping the team with two appearances in the playoffs during these four years. Eberflus’ work in Indianapolis drew the attention of the Bears, who appointed him head coach in 2022.
