The hope is that the power game specialist who moves the washer can help Long Island stay in the conversation of the playoffs and possibly to get there.
Signed for a one -year contract in pro rata for the rest of the season, Deangelo is a low -risk and very remunerative decision, from the point of view of hockey.
Although it is not exactly the same decision as the Icelanders made when they demanded Mike Reilly’s ballot last season, it certainly follows a similar scenario and the team hopes that it will have an end similar.
On November 24, 2023, the Icelanders lost defenders Adam Pelech and Sebastian Aho in a 5-3 victory against the Ottawa senators.
On November 25, the Icelanders asked for an exemption for Reilly, who had played only two games with the Florida panthers.
The Blue Line Companion had to fight for a holder role with Samuel Bolduc and AHO once AHO returned. Reilly quickly won the position.
In 59 games, Reilly scored six goals with 18 assists for 24 points, three points less than his 27-point career summit, which he completed in 55 games in 2020-2021.
Reilly was just a piece of the Puzzle of the Icelanders eliminatory series, but one more key element. And due to his success and integration into Patrick Roy’s system, he returned for the 2024-2025 season with a one-year contract worth 1.25 million dollars.
Unfortunately for Reilly and the Icelanders, he underwent a concussion on November 1, his 11th game of the season, and tests revealed a cardiac malformation which required intervention. There is no calendar for his return.
Now, Deangelo comes to fill the vacuum of Dobson, but also that of Reilly, the Islanders being six points from the second place of Wild Card with two games in hand.
