Denver – Retirement Voltueur Charlie Blackmon assumes a new role with the Colorado Rockies, that of special assistant to the Managing Director.
Blackmon will assist the managing director Bill Schmidt in all facet of baseball operations, the team announced on Saturday. The 38 -year -old retired last season after 14 seasons with the Rockies, for whom he struck. 293 with 1,805 strokes and 227 circuits.
Four times All-Star, Blackmon ranks first in the history of the franchise for the triples (68), as well as second for the games played (1,624), the doubles (334), the points scored (996) and the Safety extra bases (629).
Blackmon was selected by Rockies in the second round of the 2008 amateur draft after playing Georgia Tech. He won the Crown to the Bâton of the 2017 NL with an average of 0.331. He also helped the team participate twice in the playoff series in 2017 and 2018.
“His leadership, his deep understanding of the game and his passion for this franchise make him the ideal person to assume this new role,” said Schmidt. “We are delighted to see him bring his unique vision and experience to the players and at the Rocky front office.”
The Rockies sent Blackmon in style on his last day to Coors Field as a player in September. His wife, Ashley, and his two young children, Josie and Wyatt, joined him on the ground for a pre-match ceremony, during which he received a plate. He also received a Toyota truck perched at the top of a panel in the left field. His children each launched a throw.
